"We Left It Too Long..."

Why Delaying Your Software Purchase Can Be Costly

It’s safe to assume that everyone has at one point or another wavered in their decision to purchase a necessary item or service, which has led them to unnecessarily prolong a less-than-optimal situation. For example, it may be the case that a home owner is dealing with a broken furnace and is putting up with frigid temperatures as they take the time to decide when and where they will source a new unit. Or, it could be that a business owner is hesitant to replace several of their fleet vehicles, which are too small to handle bigger jobs.

In either case, there is a distinct cost associated with waiting, and this cost becomes more significant when the person in question continues to delay a necessary decision. To revisit the fleet vehicle example, the longer the business owner waits, the more potential revenue she is sacrificing by not being able to take on bigger jobs.

Now, some of you may say, “well, that’s fine and dandy, but I’m a business owner and I simply don’t have the time to make big changes at my company!” Yes, you may be pressed for time, and your company may be busy, but ask yourself, “if I don’t find the time now, when will I find the time? And, importantly, what will ‘not finding the time’ cost me while I keep delaying my decision?”

It’s easy to say, “I don’t have the time,” but the fact of the matter is there’s hardly ever a “good” time to implement significant changes to better your operation.

Business management software is a classic example of a needed change that many companies recognize but are resistant to implement given the perceived lack of time and perceived short-term disruption. “The spring is my busy season,” one owner may say, “and the summer isn’t great either.” What about the fall? “We have a lot of training to do then,” they may reply, “and most of my staff are away during the winter.”

That brings us back to where we started: there generally is never an “ideal” time to implement new and improved business management software; but the benefits of doing so can be tremendous.

Consider, for example, Cascade Supply & Marine, based out of Chilliwack, British Columbia, who are current users of Windward System Five, Windward Software’s flagship business management solution. They’re happy customers, and so it was somewhat of a surprise when we received a frustrated call from the owner, a few months after purchasing and implementing our system.

“Why didn’t we make the decision to get your system sooner?” he lamented. “It’s already saving us thousands each month and I can’t help but think of the money we wasted because we dillydallied on making a decision… we left it too long!

When it comes to our business management solution, Windward System Five, we encourage you not to “wait for the right time” to make a purchase decision, because it’s likely that a “right time” doesn’t exist. Instead, we urge you to think of the pain, inconvenience and cost that you and your company are experiencing by continuing to deal with an inferior and inefficient technology.

You know your business and we know business management software, which our 34 years in business attests. Implementation of a business management system is a shared responsibility between vendor and client, and one that we treat seriously. Give us a call and let’s get started: +1 (800) 663-5750.
