Windward Software is serving up its POS softwarefor a great cause.
The forward-thinking business management solutions firm is using its technology to aid the Rotary Club of Penticton as it hosts the 2015 Penticton Ribfest. Windward was the first company to sign on as a 'Full Rack' sponsor of this year's charity event, which goes July 3-5 at Lake Okanagan Park.
As Kevin Schilter, Windward's Director of Sales & Marketing, explains, organizers found it challenging to keep track of rib orders before Windward joined the cause. Not only was the sheer volume of orders generated by the anticipated 10,000 visitors a handful (who can resist gourmet ribs, right?), further complicating the situation was the fact that beverage garden patrons can pay an extra fee for the convenience of a pickup service.
These custom orders make the task of managing the cash flow a tricky endeavor. Recognizing an opportunity to lend its expertise to a mouth-watering cause, Windward stepped up and tailored a POS system that would help Rotary volunteers handle the ordering process with ease.
"We like to play with technology, and it's all part of giving back," says Schilter. "It's fast, easy-to-use software that decreases the admin work."

Bring Your Appetite
As the name suggests, the primary focus of Ribfest is a cook-off between four champion barbecue teams from across Canada. The family-friendly event also features music throughout the weekend, entertainment and activities for children and youth, a beverage garden and loads of vendors.
This year's grill masters include:
- Boss Hogg's of London, Ont.
- Gator BBQ, of Port Dover, Ont. (via Florida)
- Misty Mountain BBQ, of Hinton, Alta.
- Smoke and Bones, of Vancouver, BC
The contestants will have to impress a panel of local celebrity judges with their barbecue creations as they vie for bragging rights:
- 1st Place
- 2nd Place
- Best Sauce
- People's Choice
All attendees will be given ballots and will be encouraged to vote for their favorite team.

As mentioned, there'll be live entertainment all weekend, with Windward Software proudly sponsoring the stage lineup. The musical acts include:

The Rotary Club will use the funds raised towards for ongoing community projects for the citizens of Penticton.
